Kauai: Kauai Fire Department divers recovered two bodies off Kauai's south shore at about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday.

While not identified at this time, officials believe the bodies to be the victims of yesterday's ultralight plane crash.

The pilot Jim Gaither, age 55, of Hanapepe and his passenger, 49 year old Kim Buergel of Spokane, Washington, were reported missing at about 11:40 am yesterday after kayakers witnessed their aircraft crash into the water.

Wednesday's search was concentrated within an area approximately 200 yards from the southern shoreline in the vicinity of Kauai Coffee Company in Kalaheo, where the crash had reportedly occurred.

The sonar technology used in the search picked up images that prompted rescue divers to investigate. Two bodies, one male and one female, were recovered from the water in an area known as Big Flats. The aircraft's motor was also located in the vicinity of the bodies but was not removed.
